New leaders of the Kirtland Air Force Base Junior Force Council were elected in April. Officers for 2012 are: president, Joshua Adkins, 377th Mission Support Group; vice president, Dustin Akins, 377 MSG; public relations, Eric Cruz, Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center; and secretary, Stephanie Griffin, AFNWC.

In 2004, Air Force Materiel Command completed a junior workforce study that spurred the command to create and establish the AFNWC Junior Force Council. The purpose of the JFC is to "provide the AFNWC commander and senior leadership with advice and assistance to reach the vision for the perspective of junior force members, comprised of military and Air Force civilians." In other words, the JFC was established to improve the working relationship between the older and younger generations of the workforce, as well as to create opportunities for young leaders.

With a new JFC administration comes a new wave of thoughts and ideas to better improve the junior workforce for their future endeavors. Now is the time for junior members of the Kirtland AFB workforce to take an active role in their development and get their ideas and concerns into the JFC. The more input we have from the junior workforce, the better the JFC leadership can tailor events and opportunities for them.

Early working years for young people can be crucial in developing lifelong skills used throughout their career. Why not have opportunities presented that can play an active role in preparing you for a diverse future and career paths? Younger members of the workforce have the responsibility to make sure their future is in good hands by being proactive and getting involved now.
