School Partners Published May 14, 2012 KIRTLAND AFB, N.M. -- The Kirtland Air Force Base School Partners volunteer program is a great success. In the first four weeks, the group has provided 60 hours of tutoring at Sandia Base Elementary School. That's 120 tutoring sessions to help students improve their math and reading skills. School Partners keeps growing -- this week will be tutoring sessions for 57 students. Volunteers are also providing homework help at the Kirtland AFB Youth Center, helping the teachers and staff at SBES with clerical tasks, and assisting with supervision on the playground and other school areas. Please consider donating your time to become a volunteer. So far, two groups and 56 individuals have signed up to support the efforts. For more information, send an email to kafbschoolpartners@kirtland.af.mil or call the volunteer coordinator, Senior Airman Melissa Crocker at 853-1809. If you have children who will be starting kindergarten at SBES next school year, be sure to register them at the school May 14 and 15. Call the school at 268-4356 for more information. The District Benchmark Assessments concluded today. The assessments measure how well each student understands what has been taught this year. Check out the parent-friendly standards at http://www.aps.edu/rda/parent-guides to see what's taught at each elementary grade level. Check with your student's teacher for results.
