AFAF Kickoff

KOSC

Spouses In Action March Meeting

AFCEA Meeting
The Armed Forces Comm Electronics Association (AFCEA) ABQ chapter will be hosting a Small Business Information Technology Day/General Membership meeting on April 2 at Hotel Albuquerque in Old Town. Arts, Crafts & Hobbies
Beginning Welding

Beat the Heat
Now is the time to service your air conditioner at the auto hobby shop. 

A team mechanics can help or you can do it yourself. Available for use: 16 bay facility, motorcycle lifts, minor repair service and a four bay self-service car wash. 

New Hours at the Auto Hobby Shop: Now open noon-5 p.m. on Sundays, self help only. The shop is located on Texas near M, call 846-5400 for more information.
 
Arts and Crafts Classes

ALS Graduation Lunch

The Airman Leadership School will host a graduation lunch ceremony March 23 at 11:30 a.m. for Class 07-4 at the Mountain View Club. Tickets can be purchased from students or by e-mail: lorna.allen@kirtland.af.mil. They are $9 each for club members and $11 each for nonmembers. Tickets will be sold through Wednesday. 

Step up to the Plate
The Step Up to the Plate promotion has started and will run through March 31. Members have lunch at the Mountain View Club and receive a scratch card. Scratch to win prizes. 

Golf Course Snack Bar
The Tijeras Arroyo Golf Course snack bar is open Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in Building 28054. Menu includes: 
· Monday - soup and grilled cheese, 
· Tuesday - carne burrito with fries, 
· Wednesday - Mongolian BBQ, 
· Thursday - taco salad and

St. Patrick's Day Celebration
The Mountain View will be putting on their St. Patrick's Day celebration so get your green beer March 17 at 5:30 p.m., no reservations required, music by Rio Rhythm! Kirtland Idol
The event you have waited all year for will begin on March 30 at 7 p.m., at the Rio Grande Conference Center. There will be three preliminaries and the final will be April 27. Children/Parents
Return Home Care Program

Receive 16 hours of free child care per child for children ages 12 and under, when returning home after 30 days or more in direct support of Operation Enduring Freedom and the Global War on Terrorism; must use within 30 days of return. Call 846-1802. 

Chess Tournament
The youth center is recruiting for certified United States Chess Federation tournament directors and interested players for the upcoming KAFB Base Level Chess Tournament on March 24. Contact the youth center at 846-1829 for more information. 

2007 Youth of the Year
Youth ages 14-18 can pick up a Youth of the Year package and compete to be recognized as the best on the base in areas of leadership, service, character, academics and future goals. Call 853-5437. 

The Congressional Award
This is a noncompetitive program open to all 14-23 year olds. The award recognizes individuals for achieving goals in public service, personal development, physical fitness and expedition/exploration. Contact youth programs at 853-5437. 

Teen Aviation Camp
Teens who would like to explore the U.S. Air Force Academy as a possible choice for college can spend a week at the Air Force Academy in Colorado. Packages must be returned to the youth center no later than March 23. Stop by the youth center to pick up an application package.

Youth Employment Skills
The YES Program is a way for high school students to earn money for college and gain career experience, while volunteering. Contact the youth center at 846-1829 for more information.

Parents' Night Out!
March16 from 6:30-10:30 p.m. provided at the Gibson Child Development Center. The cost will be $13 per child. A light dinner is included in the cost. Payment is due March 14. Call the Gibson Child Development Center at 846-1103.

Air Force Reserve

Budget 101
Scheduled for March 16 from 10-11 a.m. in the Airman and Family Readiness Center classroom. Are you in control of your spending or is your spending controlling you? Learn how to establish and maintain a realistic budget. 

Hearts Apart Family Dinner
Scheduled for March 16 at the Mountain View Club from 5:30-7 p.m. Please arrive between 5-5:30 pm. This is an opportunity to come out and socialize with fellow Hearts Apart families. Open to all who have a deployed servicemember. RSVP by calling 846-0741.

Preseparation Briefing
Briefing covers a wide range of benefits and services available to transitioning military personnel and their families. Members can participate in the monthly group briefing or schedule an individual appointment. The DD Form 2648, Preseparation Counseling Checklist, which is required for final out-processing, will be completed. Spouses are encouraged to attend.

Predeployment Briefings
Available on a walk-in basis at the Airman and Family Readiness Center every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 10 a.m. or 2 p.m. or by appointment for special needs. Family members are encouraged to attend and to sign up for the Hearts Apart Program.

Operating Hours for MVD
Active duty in uniform get head-of-line privileges all day, every day. Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Doors will close at 4 p.m. and staff will stay to accommodate remaining customers. Call 846-8390.

Thrift Shop Closure Dates
The Thrift Shop will be closed for Spring Break March 24-April 1, and April 6 for Good Friday. The shop is on the corner of F Avenue and Texas Street. Hours are Mondays, Wednesday, Fridays and the second Saturday of each month from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Airmen Assistance Program
The KOSC Thrift Shop offers assistance for Airmen ranked E-4 or below and their families. Ask your commander or first shirt to send an e-mail to Kirtland.thriftshop @kirtland.af.mil.

IEU Closed for Inventory
The Individual Equipment Unit of Base Supply will be closed until March 16 for its semi-annual inventory. Personnel requiring DCUs must plan accordingly. Emergency Issues will only be processed for personnel with deployment orders in hand and deploying within 30 days. For more information call IEU at 846-0075.
