On Sept. 14, three New Mexico bases will come together for an all-day celebration of the Air Force's 60th Anniversary.

The celebration, titled "Heritage to Horizons" and hosted by Kirtland AFB, will be held at the Sandia Resort and Casino, in the foothills of Albuquerque's Sandia Mountains.

"The purpose of the day is to celebrate where we've come from to where we are today - the world's best air and space power," said Col. Mohsen Parhizkar, 377th Air Base Wing vice commander and chairman of the event. "The whole idea is to take our Air Force to the people, and it is my personal goal to make sure New Mexico's tribute to our service's birthday is the best event throughout the entire Air Force."

Although the event is still in the planning phases, the goal is to kick off the celebration with a golf tournament, followed by a tour of public exhibits representing several Air Force organizations and conclude the evening with a dinner gala event.

As with any other large event, there are several moving pieces that must all come together in the end for the occasion to be a success. To start sorting out the initial to-do list, Colonel Parhizkar has formed a 60th Anniversary committee with representatives from various organizations around the base.

Although the first taskings have been handed out there is still a lot to do in the upcoming months to get prepared, and the committee is looking for all the help it can get.

For example, if your organization has a unique mission that would be worthwhile to showcase to the public through a hands-on, close-up exhibit, please let the committee know.
Also, for those organizations that are not yet a part of this committee and would like to get involved, please contact Colonel Parhizkar to be added to the member roster at mohsen.parhizkar@kirtland.af.mil.
