Stork visits Team Kirtland in a big way Published May 1, 2007 By Sheila Rupp Nucleus Journalist KIRTLAND AIR FORCE BASE, New Mexico -- More than 60 moms or moms-to-be - and even a few dads and dads-to-be - gathered at the pediatric clinic for what was billed as a big baby shower. A Baby Affair, a base-wide baby shower sponsored by the 377th Medical Operations Squadron and the First Sergeants Association, was held April 19. The clinic waiting room was adorned with Care Bear-themed decorations and soon-to-be moms and those with young infants packed the chairs, spilling over to the floor. Ms. Feehan, who said she came up with the idea as another reason to have a party and for base moms to feel special, welcomed the crowd. The group played a game of pass-the-present, where a story about Mr. and Mrs. Wright went to the hospital and each time left, right or Wright was mentioned the presents were passed. Each participant got a gift of a baby book or a swaddling cloth. During lunch, the excited group played baby bingo while balancing bingo cards and plates of food on babies or ever-expanding bellies. Though her children are no longer infants and she isn't expecting again, Chris Hierl attended A Baby Affair with her neighbor for moral support. "I thought the whole thing was just awesome. I really wish that someone had started this when I was having my kids," Ms. Hierl said. "I think it was a really good way for moms to meet each other and network, plus it was a lot of fun." The two-hour shower was loaded with food, friendships and fun, along with lots of great giveaways and prizes for those attending. The goal is to hold the special event approximately every six months to include everyone taking on the role of motherhood.
