Car decals no longer needed for base entry Published May 1, 2007 By Staff Sgt. Christopher Frost Nucleus Editor KIRTLAND AIR FORCE BASE, New Mexico -- Vehicle decals, officially known as Department of Defense Forms 2220, issued by pass and registration are no longer needed to access the base. Only a valid DOD-issued identification card will be needed to enter the base. Gate guards may also check other identification such as driver's licenses, insurance cards and registration for compliance with registration and insurance requirements. After the events of Sept. 11, 2001, security was changed to require 100 percent ID card checks of drivers at base gates. Since checking IDs is a more effective means of granting access to the base, requiring vehicle decals has become redundant. The Air Force spends hundreds of thousands of dollars a year in receiving the decals, and even more time is spent in issuing them. Pass and registration will continue issuing decals until supplies run out, if requested. To have a decal issued, individuals must still show state registration, insurance, a DOD ID card and a driver's license.
