60th anniversary committee searches for old uniforms Published May 14, 2007 By Jillian Speake 377th Air Base Wing Public Affairs KIRTLAND AIR FORCE BASE, New Mexico -- The 60th Anniversary Celebration committee spent the last few weeks organizing and planning exhibits to showcase the Air Force and the New Mexico bases' missions and personnel to the public. One of the ideas being kicked around for an exhibit is to showcase all of the Air Force uniforms: past, present and future. "The purpose of the whole day is to celebrate and pay tribute to the triumphs and tribulations our service has encountered over the last 60 years," said Col. Mohsen Parhizkar, 377th Air Base Wing vice commander and chairperson of the Sept. 14 event. "What better way to show the Air Force's ability to evolve over the years than to spotlight the different uniforms worn throughout our history?" However, locating uniforms from the past such as the Vietnam, World War I and World War II eras have proven to be quite challenging for the committee members. Therefore, the committee is asking any member of Kirtland AFB who knows a point of contact or has an idea of how to obtain uniforms no longer in production to share their ideas. "This celebration will only be as memorable as we make it," said Colonel Parhizkar. "Although there is a committee to spearhead the planning efforts, this is a New Mexico-wide celebration, and I encourage each and every one of you to get involved, voice your ideas and help ensure this event is a huge success." In addition to the uniform display, the committee is looking at other career fields, squadrons and units on base that would be ideal to display during the exhibit portion of the day. If you work in an area that you think would provide an interesting, hands-on, and up-close look at what you do for the Air Force, please let us know, added Colonel Parhizkar.
