The Sexual Assault Prevention and Response team opened a new satellite office at the Kirtland base dorms in building 20352, January 19th.

The satellite dorm office offers victims of sexual assault, convenience and the opportunity to report immediately without having to much time from their car to the office to change their mind.

“Many young airmen and guardians do not have vehicles, so they won't have to rely on someone else bringing them to the SAPR Office and possibly exposing the assault that they wanted to keep private,” said Howard Carter, 377th Air Base Wing SAPR victim’s advocate. “I am super excited that we will be so accessible to those that might not have come forward otherwise.”

The SAPR team establishes comprehensive procedures for responding to the crime of sexual assault within the Department of Defense, ensuring that sexual assault victims are cared for with dignity and respect. Some services they offer are restricted or unrestricted reporting, chaplain referral, mental health counseling, medical help, and victims counseling.

There are many great benefits that this office has to offer and one of the most important is that this office will provide our Airmen a safe more private setting,” said Col. Elizabeth Keller, 377th Air Base Wing vice commander. “They can report a sexual assault or sexual harassment without having to leave their residence or go to the wing headquarter building. This is a huge win for win for our Airmen”

The new offices hours of operation will be every Tuesday and Thursday from 08:00am- 04:00pm.
