KIRTLAND AIR FORCE BASE, NEW MEXICO—The 58th Special Operations Wing recently hosted contributing editor Elan Head and photographer Lloyd Horgan from Vertical Magazine and its sister publication, Skies Magazine, to highlight the flying training mission here.

U.S. Air Force Col. Michael Curry, 58th Special Operations Wing commander, hosted the crew for the immersion tour that included interviews, orientation flights on the wing’s HH-60W, MC-130J, and CV-22, and opportunities to document flight and maintenance crews at work.

“The parts that make our team and missions a success every day are our Airmen” said Curry. “We wanted to ensure these magazines were able to see this and document their great work for these important missions.”

Curry leads 2,300 Airmen teaching 90 courses to more than 16,000 students each year. The 58th SOW trains Air Force special operations, combat search and rescue aircrews, missile site support, and distinguished visitor airlift crews, and is responsible for the Air Force Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape schools.

The 58th SOW units highlighted to Vertical Magazine and Skies Magazine, were the 71st Special Operations Squadron, the 415th Special Operations Squadron, and the 512th Rescue Squadron.
