Days of Remembrance. Over the course of four years, between five and six million Jews were killed during the Holocaust. The U.S. Congress established Days of Remembrance as the nation’s annual commemoration of the Holocaust, and remembrance activities occurred nationwide between April 28 and May 5, 2019.

The Kirtland Air Force Base Chaplain Corps helped Team Kirtland remember those who were killed; those who survived; and those who sheltered and helped Jewish people during the Holocaust with a Days of Remembrance event at the base chapel May 3, 2019.

During the event, a traditional Jewish meal was provided for lunch while Jewish music was played on a piano.

The luncheon led up to the play “Corrie Remembers,” the true story of Corrie Ten Boom, a Christian woman who saved nearly 800 Jewish people (including many children) during the Holocaust.

Susie Sandager, creator and actress of the one-woman show, “Corrie Remembers,” portrayed 85 year-old Ten Boom recounting the stories of her younger years during the Holocaust.

Sandager, like Ten Boom, has a love for Israel and the Jewish people.

“I think Corrie Ten Boom’s story is very powerful on many levels,” said Sandager. “She was a devout woman of faith. Her message was forgiveness and she loved the Jewish people.”
