The Legal Office is preparing for the opening of the Kirtland Air Force Base Tax Center, and is looking for volunteers to dedicate their time in supporting our military families and retirees. The center will open in February.

KIRTLAND AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. --

The Kirtland Air Force Base Tax Center will be open again for the 2019 tax season between Feb. 4 and April 15 to provide free tax-filing services to eligible individuals.

The Tax Center is completely volunteer-run and has partnered with the Internal Revenue Service’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program. 

Eligibility: Because resources are limited, the Tax Center will prepare tax returns for E-7s and below, O-3s and below, retirees with gross income of $85,000 and below, and their dependents.  Eligibility for military clients includes Active Duty, National Guard and Reserves.   

The office will be open to eligible parties, Tuesday thru Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., by appointment and on a walk-in basis.

The center will be located inside of the Consolidated Support building 20245, across from the Housing Office.

What to bring to the Tax Center:

-- Proof of identification (Picture ID)

-- Social Security cards for every dependent/Individual Taxpayer Identification Number for foreign status

-- Birth dates for each person

-- A copy of federal and state returns for the last two years

-- Income statements from any source: W-2, W-2G, 1099s, etc.

-- Direct Deposit information (bring checkbook or bank routing and account numbers)

-- Total paid for daycare provider and provider’s tax identifying number (TIN)

-- Higher education documents from college/university (1098-T and statements)

Starting Jan. 20, 2020 appointments can be made by calling (505) 846-4217. After Feb. 4, 2020, make appointments by calling the Tax Center directly at (505) 853-1700.
