With headquarters at Kirtland Air Force Base, N.M., the Air Force Research Laboratory Space Vehicles Directorate serves as the Department of the Air Force’s "Center of Excellence" for space technology research and development. The directorate develops and transitions space technologies to provide space-based capabilities. Primary mission area thrusts include space-based intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, space domain awareness, space communications, position, navigation and timing, and defensive space control (protecting space assets from man-made and natural effects). The directorate also leverages commercial, civil and other government resources to stay one step ahead in space and to ensure America's advantage. Stay one step ahead in space.
Col. Eric J. Felt is director, Space Vehicles Directorate, Air Force Research Laboratory, and commander of the Phillips Research Site.
