EUBANK GATE CONSTRUCTION PROJECT

A new construction traffic pattern will begin Monday, Feb. 3, 2020. Access to Eubank gate will be constrained inbound and outbound, with arterial roadways potentially affected. Use of alternate gates is highly recommended.

ABQ Ride bus stop relocations :  Three bus stops along routes 98, 31 and 1 will be temporarily relocated; the new locations are at K and 20th St. Signs will be posted at the stops. Use ABQ Ride to help ease gate and parking congestion.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

The purpose of the project is to realign the 20th and G St. intersection with a street leading to the new National Nuclear Security Administration Albuquerque Complex and address security concerns at the Eubank Gate.

Construction will start in the fall of 2019. The project will impact employees who access the base via the Eubank Gate.

Impacts to commuters are not anticipated until after the first of the year. Impacts may include reconfigured inbound and outbound lanes, road construction delays, and possibly gate closure if necessary.

Construction updates may be shared among multiple platforms like this website, the Kirtland Air Force Base App, and email. People can download the free Kirtland Air Force Base App to receive notifications via smart phones at the Apple Store and Google Play Store.

Jan. 15, 2020: (off base) 3 - 5 p.m., Museum of Nuclear Science & History, 601 Eubank Blvd., SE

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How many lanes will be closed during construction? For most phases of the construction, the number of inbound and outbound lanes will remain the same by utilizing the Sandia contractor gate.

Are there plans to increase inbound and outbound lanes at the Eubank gate? This project does not increase the number of lanes at the gate. The purpose of the project is to realign the 20th and G St. intersection with a street leading to the new National Nuclear Security Administration Albuquerque Complex and address security concerns at the Eubank Gate.   

Can more gates be open 24/7 during construction? During construction, hours may be adjusted at other gates and published on the KAFB website and app.

Will the Sandia contractor gate be open to traffic during construction? Sandia’s contractor gate (located south of the Eubank gate) will be utilized. Access for Sandia’s contractors will move to KAFB’s contractor gate (off Gibson, just west of Carlisle).

Can KAFB open the South Valley Gate during construction? The South Valley Gate was permanently closed on Oct. 12, 2018.
