Col. John C. Scott is the Vice Commander of the New Mexico Air National Guard. Previously he was the Commander of the 150th Maintenance Group. There he commanded 219 officer, enlisted, and civilian personnel in three subordinate units. As the commander of the 150 MXG Lt Col Scott and his team successfully provide aircraft maintenance capability in a complex Classic Association providing programmed flying training for special operations aircrews in four different platforms to include the only CV-22 aircrew training unit in the ANG. In his previous assignment as Mission Support Group Commander Col. Scott lead the ANG response to the COVID-19 pandemic while serving as the Director of the NMANG Emergency Operations Center. While assigned as Director of Staff-Air, he was the principal advisor to TAG & ATAG on all ANG matters and served as the subject matter expert for all personnel and staffing matters for the NMANG. He has also served as the Congressional Action Contact Officer for the NMNG, building key relationships with members of the NM Congressional Delegation.
Colonel Scott enlisted in the New Mexico Air National Guard on Feb. 12, 1991. He initially served as an enlisted member in the Jet Engine Shop for more than nine years before earning a commission in July of 2000. As an officer Col. Scott has served in numerous roles including becoming fully qualified as a Logistics Readiness Officer, Aircraft Maintenance Officer, and Plans & Programs Officer. As an officer he was called to duty for Operation Noble Eagle and has served as the Senior Maintenance Officer for numerous large scale exercises, a show of force deployment to Kunsan AB, Korea in 2006 and ultimately for a combat deployment to Operation Iraqi Freedom at Balad AB, Iraq in 2007. Col. Scott was instrumental in the successful stand up of the Total Force Integration between the NMANG and 58th SOW. Lt Col Scott currently serves as the Commander of the 150th Maintenance Group having recently completed tours as the Director of Staff NMANG, Mission Support Group Commander and in National Guard Bureau A3Z. He has over ten years of command experience at the Flight, Squadron, and Group levels and has completed Headquarters Staff Tours at both the state and National Guard Bureau levels.
