10/3/2012 - KIRTLAND AFB, N.M. -- Team Kirtland will host a variety of events throughout October to recognize wounded warriors.

Wounded warriors are servicemembers who have had a combat or hostile-related injury or illness requiring long-term care or an evaluation board to determine fitness for duty.
The first event is a golf tournament starting at 11 a.m. Oct. 5 at Tijeras Arroyo Golf Course. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. On Oct. 12, a co-ed "all-nighter" softball tournament starts at 4 p.m. The fee is $150 per team and play is limited to the first 10 teams. For more information or to sign up, call 846-1102.

As part of Wounded Warrior Day, an information fair will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. Oct. 19 at the Mountain View Club.

"The Information Fair is open to all wounded warriors, servicemembers and civilians," said Ray Burton, 377th Force Support Squadron.

Several agencies, including the Albuquerque Vet Center, Disabled American Veterans and Military OneSource will be available to answer questions about the latest services, assistance, technology and productivity tools for home and work.

"It is important for Team Kirtland to hold these events to raise community awareness and let every wounded warrior know we care and are here for them. no matter what," said Burton. "We need to provide information about the programs and services available to meet the needs of our wounded warriors and their families."
