F.E. WARREN AIR FORCE BASE, Wyo. -- Is there anything like Cheyenne, Wyoming in July? The Daddy of ‘em All rodeo and the annual Wings Over Warren Air Show brings loads of family fun to town for everyone to enjoy.
The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds demonstration team was back in action this year, a tradition for the team since their very first public appearance in July 1953.
The morning started off with some weather and thick fog, which delayed the show and prohibited the Air Force Wings of Blue parachute team from performing their demonstration. However, the skies cleared and the show went on!
An A-10C Thunderbolt II provided a demonstration along with the 37th Helicopter Squadron with the UH-1N Huey, and of course the Thunderbirds. Aerial demonstration teams perform precision maneuvers in the air to showcase the capabilities of the Air Force, its pilots and aircraft.
"This air show has been going in some capacity since 1953, and we're proud to continue this fantastic tradition," said Lt. Col. Thomas McKnight, air show ground boss. "We've been able to make this air show a staple of the summer season here in Cheyenne, due to the overwhelming amount of support from the total force of the military and civilian communities.”
A C-130H Hercules also provided a heavy bird fly over for the air show’s spectators. There were static displays where spectators could see HH-60M Blackhawk and UH-1N Huey helicopters up close.
“We were up bright and early to make sure we could get through the doors,” said spectator Allison Lanthorn. “We are most excited for the American experience of seeing the excellence of the United States military and being around the American spirit.”
Since 1953, the Wings Over Warren Air Show has been a part of Cheyenne Frontier Days, giving visitors an unforgettable experience.
