Under the theme of “Love where you live, work and play,” Team Kirtland organizations observed Earth Day 2021 on April 22, 2021, by cleaning up litter around Sandia Elementary School and Kirtland Family Housing areas.

“We like to say that every day is ‘Earth Day’ in the Environmental Management Office at KAFB, but for this special day, we are really excited to team up with Kirtland Family Housing to clean up trash around Sandia Elementary School,” said Melissa Clark, chief of the 377th Air Base Wing environmental management office.

“We are making it a special day to give back to our community. It’s designed to be laid back, get outside, and help our community. It’s not just an environmental issue, but in my mind, it has to do with quality of life at Kirtland – and how we as a community can come together to make our little corner of the world a better place for us to live, work and play,” said Pacífica Cásares-Chehy, Hunt Companies marketing coordinator for Kirtland Family Housing.

Teams of volunteers will spend the day picking up litter in the Kirtland and Maxwell Place ABQ housing areas and along trails.

As an incentive for participating in the neighborhood cleanups, Cásares-Chehy said base residents can drive by the Kirtland Family Housing office at KFH Towne Center Circle or at the Maxwell Place leasing center and pick up flowers, bags of soil and grass seed, and more materials.
