It’s not every day that a squadron makes history by earning a multitude of unit and individual awards. But last year, 7th Logistics Readiness Squadron earned recognition for the hard work that they accomplished in 2018 at Dyess Air Force Base, Texas.

The 7th LRS provides home-base logistics support, as well as mobility support of deployed forces. The squadron provides supplies, equipment and fuel to all base units, receiving and storing more than 388,000 pieces of property.

They also fulfill the base’s transportation requirements, managing and maintaining more than 500 vehicles, aircrew transportation, personal property shipments, and recalling and training ready-augmentation-duty force members to support deployment exercises, inspections and contingencies.

“Our main priority is to support Team Dyess and to execute both of the 7th Bomb Wing and 317th Airlift Wing’s missions and our main goals have always been accountability, readiness and ownership,” Bojanowski said. “We push our flight leaders, young officers and senior civilians to be leaders and focus on the people, which has helped us continue to achieve great results within our squadron.”

The unit awards the squadron and its members received are the Air Force Global Strike Command Daedalian Award and the AFGSC’s 2018 National Defense Transportation Association Unit Award.

The individual awards included the Air Force Outstanding Logistics Readiness NCO of the Year Award earned by Tech. Sgt. Talvin Hayes, 7th LRS fuels environmental safety office NCO in charge; the Air Force Outstanding Logistics Readiness Civilian Category I of the Year earned by Peter Morton, 7th LRS Traffic Management Office cargo supervisor; and the AFGSC Gen. Thomas P. Gerrity Award earned Lt. Col. Sean Bojanowski, 7th LRS commander.

“Our success in winning the unit and individual awards is centered on our core values, but most importantly, leading by example,” Bojanowski said. “Although I’m proud to receive this individual award, I see this accomplishment as a team award. This squadron consists of 356 personnel, and I couldn’t have done it without them.”

This was the first time the 7th LRS members have won the AFGSC Daedalian Award in 56 years, and they won the NDTA Unit Award for the first time in squadron history.

The Daedalian award is presented to the squadron that achieves the best supply effectiveness record in support of mission aircraft and weapons Air Force wide. The NDTA program annually presents a series of prestigious awards recognizing individual members, corporate members, chapters and military units for demonstrating outstanding accomplishments in transportation, logistics and passenger travel.

“Everything I have achieved or won in the Air Force is not a reflection of my own efforts,” Hayes said. “Even though my name is on the award, I see my team and their hard work that they accomplished and their sacrifices during that time period.

“I believe that success is infectious, and it makes you strive to be better,” he added.

The Air Force Outstanding Logistics Readiness NCO and Civilian Category I awards recognizes individuals who excelled in performance and made outstanding contributions to the AF or Department of Defense Logistics Readiness mission. The Gerrity Award is an individual award for outstanding contributions to logistics operations, management, business processes and the success of logistics operations worldwide.

“This is the first time I’ve been part of a squadron that has had so many high-level awards during the 37 years I’ve served the military on active duty and as a civilian,” Morton said. “These awards say a lot for this squadron since we have five flights and personnel from 13 different career fields who come together to accomplish our squadron’s mission.”
