Airmen from the 90th Missile Wing marched in the grand parade today, marking the official start of Cheyenne Frontier Days here in Cheyenne, Wyoming, July 21, 2018.

Approximately 150 Airmen, led by Col. Brian Rico, 90th Maintenance Group commander, marched in step down Capitol Avenue during the grand parade.

“We have to feel honored no matter what job we do because we represent our family and the families that served before us,” said Rico. “Not everyone has had the opportunity to do events like this and we can be the inspiration for those watching.”

The tradition of Airmen marching in the grand parade has been around for decades, representing the partnership and trust between the military and Cheyenne, during the city’s largest event.

In addition to the Airman formation, senior military leadership participated in the day’s events. Gen. Joseph Lengyel, National Guard Bureau chief, served as the Grand Marshal during the parade.

“I just love having the military out here,” said Alyssa Myers, parade watcher. “It shows a true sense of patriotism and pride within the community.”

Multiple units and private organizations on base provide numerous volunteers from the 90th Security Forces Group providing extra security and directing traffic, to the 90th Civil Engineer Squadron helping to construct booths. Many skills learned through the Air Force are utilized during the event, and every unit on base is instrumental to the success of CFD.

These events bring both the Cheyenne and military communities together in celebration of their 151 year partnership.
