Climbing Gym
Paddy's Day Competition

March 15 at 5 p.m. at the outdoor recreation climbing gym. Win prizes and help strengthen the base climbing community. Entrance fee is $3 in advance or $5 at the door and includes food, prizes and much more. Call 846-1499.

Kids Rock
Beginner instruction for ages 5-10 at the Kirtland climbing gym on March 22 from 4-5 p.m. The cost is $15 a child.

Tennis
The Coronado Tennis Club, a Kirtland AFB private organization, has started its 2007 membership drive. USTA league teams are being formed for the season. Half price yearly associate membership is available for active duty military and their families for $100 a family. The CTC courts were resurfaced in 2006 and provide some of the best tennis surfaces in Albuquerque. Outdoor Recreation
Ski Trips Scheduled:
· Pagosa Springs Wolf Creek on March 16-18, $230. Includes lodging for entire trip.
· Santa Fe Ski Area on March 24 $71.
· Sandia Peak on March 25, $69.
· Angel Fire Resort on March 31, $80.
· Taos Ski Valley on April 7, cost will be $79.

Volunteer Raft Guide
Starting in April you can be trained as a volunteer raft guide for the summer season. Training costs $100 and will be held most weekends in April. The fee will be fully refunded at the end of the season to guides who complete all training, are chosen to be part of the volunteer team and who fulfill their guiding commitment. Outdoor recreation offers trips from half day to multiday and run from May to September, conditions permitting. Call 846-1499 for information or to sign up.

Adventure Camp
Calling all teens ages 13-18 who like canoeing, hiking, swimming, rope courses and other outdoor activities; we have the camp for you. Spaces are limited and there is an application process. Applications must be returned to the youth center no later than March 23. Contact Youth Programs for information at 853-5437.

Youth Baseball
Batter Up! Registration for spring baseball has begun. This is a recreational intramural league for ages 5 and up. Registrations may be picked up at the front desk. Please stop by or call 853-5437 for more information.

Softball Team

Every Wednesday Night and All Day Sunday is Family Bowling. Bring your family to Kirtland Lanes Bowling Center. Kids bowl for 50 cents a game, adults $1 and E-1 through E-4 bowl for 75 cents.

Personal Fitness Trainer Certification

For those who will or do work one-on-one with exercise clients, this three-day certification workshop includes lectures, practical demonstration and both written and practical exams. It covers exercise physiology, anatomy, kinesiology and injury prevention.

The course objectives are consistent with those of the National Board of Fitness Examiners. The workshop fee is $449 and does not include study materials. To register call 800-990-2118 or visit www.afaa.com.

Prerequisites: "Personal Fitness Training: Theory and Practice," is the required text for this workshop and the $59 cost is not included. Current CPR required before certification is issued. Weight training/weight room experience is recommended. Early registration and pre-study is suggested.

Primary Group Exercise Certification

For group exercise instructors who are prepared to take the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America Primary Group Exercise Certification exam, this course is a review of AFAA's Basic Exercise Standards and Guidelines, anatomy, exercise science, exercise evaluation and exam criteria.

The program format includes practical application of group exercise, study guide overview and question and answer sessions. The day concludes with written and practical exams. The workshop fee is $289 and does not include study materials. To register call 800-990-2118 or visit www.afaa.com.

Prerequisites: Early registration, self-study before program and group exercise teaching experience. The Practical Skills & Choreography workshop is a useful precursor. Current CPR certification required before certification is issued.
