Colonel FREDERICK A. HUNT JR.

Col. Frederick A. Hunt, Jr., serves as the Senior Materiel Leader and Director of the Air Delivered Capabilities Directorate, Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center, Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico. The directorate of 298 government personnel is responsible for the life-cycle acquisition of all air-delivered weapons of the U.S. Strategic Nuclear Triad, which includes the operational Air Launched Cruise Missile and B61 and B83 gravity weapons; the Long Range Stand-off weapon; B61-12 tailkit and W80-4 life extension programs (both ACAT-1D programs); and the Weapons Storage and Security System in Europe. The directorate leads a $4.8-billion portfolio executing the development, production and sustainment for all air-delivered nuclear weapon systems and supporting infrastructure while ensuring integration with delivery platforms in support of U.S. and NATO allies.

Colonel Hunt enlisted and served eight years in the United States Army and Massachusetts National Guard as an M-1 Tank Crewman and Field Artillery Fire Direction Control Chief. He entered the Air Force after receiving his commission in November 1994 from the Air Force Officer Training School.

During Colonel Hunt’s career, he has served in a variety of additional acquisition and technical intelligence positions. Prior to current responsibilities, he served in two Senior Materiel Leader assignments. First, as the Space Production Division Chief for the Remote Sensing Division, Space and Missile Systems Center, Los Angeles Air Force Base, California, he was responsible for a portfolio which included production and launch of four Space Based Infrared System missile warning replenishment satellites; on-orbit demonstrators, such as a next- generation Wide Field-of-View sensor; and technology development and maturation projects. Second, he was Division Chief for the Next-Generation Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) Satellite Systems, Development Corps, Space and Missile Systems Center, Los Angeles Air Force  Base. In this role, he was responsible for a $12-billion portfolio which included the development and fielding of the next-generation missile warning OPIR GEO and Polar Space Segment archititectures.
